Protect the Forest. Preserve the Birdsong.
Why Bird Friendly Coffee?
Preserving the Sound of Spring
Every spring, we notice it.
After months of winter quiet, the mornings suddenly come alive. Songbirds return, hummingbirds dart through the garden, and the air fills with the sounds that remind us the seasons have changed.
It has become one of our family's favorite times of year.
We want our children—and someday their children—to grow up in a world where birdsong is still part of everyday life. That's why we built Tomorrow's Coffee around one simple belief:
The coffee we drink should help protect the habitats birds depend on.
Every bag we roast is Smithsonian Bird Friendly Certified®, USDA Organic Certified, and Fair Trade Certified because we believe exceptional coffee and environmental stewardship should go hand in hand.
What is Bird Friendly® Coffee?
Bird Friendly® is the gold standard for sustainable coffee certification, developed by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center to protect the tropical forests that migratory and resident birds depend on.
Unlike conventional coffee production, Bird Friendly coffee must be grown beneath a diverse canopy of native trees that creates a thriving forest ecosystem. These shade-grown forests provide food, shelter, and nesting habitat for birds while also supporting countless species of mammals, pollinators, insects, reptiles, and other wildlife.
To earn Bird Friendly certification, every farm must also be USDA Organic certified, meaning synthetic pesticides and fertilizers are prohibited.
It's one of the few certifications focused not only on how coffee is grown—but on preserving the habitat that wildlife needs to survive.
Why does it matter?
Many of the birds we enjoy seeing across North America each spring spend part of their lives in the tropical forests of Central and South America.
As coffee farming has shifted toward sun-grown production, many traditional forested coffee farms have been cleared to increase yields. While productive, these farms provide far less habitat for birds and other wildlife.
Bird Friendly certification rewards farmers for protecting healthy forest canopies instead of removing them, helping conserve places where birds can feed, rest, migrate, and raise their young.
Choosing Bird Friendly coffee is a simple everyday decision that supports farms committed to keeping these forests standing.
More than birds
Healthy coffee forests benefit far more than birds.
They help preserve biodiversity, protect pollinators, improve soil health, safeguard clean water, store carbon, and create more resilient ecosystems for both wildlife and farming communities.
Our commitment extends beyond the farm, too. Every bag of Tomorrow's Coffee is packaged in commercially compostable packaging, because caring for the environment doesn't stop once the coffee leaves the roastery.
Our Commitment
Tomorrow's Coffee is a small family-owned roastery in Pennsylvania, founded on the belief that businesses can be a force for good.
Every coffee we roast is:
-
Smithsonian Bird Friendly Certified®
-
USDA Organic Certified
-
Fair Trade Certified
-
Fresh roasted in small batches
-
Packaged in commercially compostable bags
We know one bag of coffee won't solve every conservation challenge.
But we also believe meaningful change begins with everyday choices.
When enough people choose products that protect forests instead of destroying them, those choices add up.
Every Cup Helps Preserve Birdsong
The return of birds each spring reminds us that healthy ecosystems are something worth protecting.
When you choose Bird Friendly coffee, you're supporting farmers who preserve forest habitat, protect biodiversity, and help ensure future generations can experience the same joy of waking up to birdsong.
Thank you for helping us keep that song alive—one cup at a time.
